Endured three long months of preamble

Stores stocked to the gills
With the latest plastic calamities
People fight each other to appease

Mere days after we gave thanks for what we already have,
if that ever was the case

I got miles of loneliness
Far from any loved one’s care

And with the courage of my convictions
I’ll have no part of this season
Celebrating the reminders of no one being here

Holiday specials,
With every kind of fairy-tale fruit
From flipping TV channels in my youth
Such sweet moral fictions

But you know this ain’t Disneyland
No holy lights or miracles planned
Just empty bottles & renewed prescriptions

You get the impression it’s all angel songs & gingerbread people
Then you see all the down trodden & blissful merriment of every kind of evil
So long as it’s all hidden away
Under the rug for that one day in church
Never living in that higher ground they expressed
In every Christmas song verse

And look at Santa doing the mambo
