about

Darling, I Can’t Stand You, or at least it’s title, was inspired by another song called Baby, You’re So Repulsive, by the band Crime. James Conrad suggested writing such a song & things just fell into place with it rather quickly

lyrics

Darling, I Can't Stand You
words by Ryan Voss

Somewhere out there’s a spot o’ sunshine
I only know at all
‘Cause I hooked myself on the idea
Despite your efforts, it flickers still

We’ve tried to make it work to no avail
Well, I do all the trying
While you sit around, trying my patience
No way to numb the pain,
You already helped yourself to my booze & pills

Darling, I just can’t stand you
I see an open door,
It got me thinkin’,
Here’s why the chicken crossed the street

Darling, I just can’t stand you
Found a ticket to elsewhere,
With your name written there,
Why are you still sittin’ here?
Get movin’, pick up your feet!

Must’ve passed the expiration date
On whatever glue you used,
Kept we worn & abused, but planted
Leaving me in your shadow, not worth a damn

We deluded ourselves in a daydream
I would’ve noticed sooner,
Been wincing at the tumors you made me
You think yourself a trophy-wife,
Maybe to some deaf, dumb & blind man

Darling, I just can’t stand you
I see an open door,
It got me thinkin’,
Here’s why the chicken crossed the street

Darling, I just can’t stand you
Found a ticket to elsewhere,
With your name written there,
Why are you still sittin’ here?
Get movin’, pick up your feet!

You, yourself, you’re no spring chicken
You’re getting’ on in years,
And I suspect my very fears are shared
We done our bit,
And bit off more than we can chew

Should’ve trusted to our better judgment
And we’re not ranking high,
We’re the very girl & guy that got us here
There’s no love lost,
It took to the hills with me & you

Darling, I just can’t stand you
I see an open door,
It got me thinkin’,
Here’s why the chicken crossed the street

Darling, I just can’t stand you
Found a ticket to elsewhere,
With your name written there,
Why are you still sittin’ here?
Get movin’, pick up your feet!

Darling, I just can’t stand you
I see but one way out,
I’m going mental,
Pedal to the metal & away with speed

Darling, I just can’t stand you
I could go on
In a thousand more verses
Overflowing with curses
What more do you need to read?!!
